Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to undertake their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the secret base, attacking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Schemers tables.

Fans can anticipate learning which characters will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
